Transparency you can believe in

March 6, 2009

Today’s healthcare discussions where streamed live at whitehouse.gov/live

To me this is huge, and I’m very suprised there were no write ups anywhere about it.  I caught a brief mention at Andrew Sullivan’s.

This is starting to put the teeth into the whole transparency thing.  Not an empty campaign promise, not a feel-good catchphrase.  Actual procedure.

Also, these were not prepared remarks or testimony as you commonly see on CSPAN.  It was a candid back and forth between stakeholders.

Can you imagine the added value of having a discussion about say, net neutrality, or whether to approve a permit or a land lease, out in the open for every stakeholder to see, and not just hear about it from a journalist’s summary and editorial?

This is a great start.
